These three dimensions constitute most of the contents of contemporary interactivemultimedia applications and contribute in different proportions to their acceptance and success:
Dimension Multimedia
• Several conventional media forms (like text, graphics, photos, audio, video) are offered and used in a combined and integrated form (-Multimedia)
• The term Media Integration also stands for the combination of conventional media forms in order to form an innovative integrated kind of information
- This includes the process of combination itself, as well as the result of this process (i. e. multimedia titles or applications)
- In Media Integration, there always exists a contents related creative dimension, as well as a technical dimension
• From this perspective Media Integration and Multimedia can be seen as synonyms
• Skilled media integration (= Multimedia) is a demanding challenge to media producers, seen from the technological and creative point of view
Dimension Interactivity
• Interactive Media allow the user to individually select and combine the information, according to his personal preferences and individual criteria
• The respective degree of interactivity and multimedia (-lity) varies in a wide range between the contemporary forms of electronic and digital media.
Not all multimedia applications or titles are also interactive,
not all interactive applications or titles also include Multimedia !!
Dimension Communication
• Generally all media facilitate communication
• Mass media typically allow for one way communication from the sender toreceiver (- no feedback channel provided)
• Individual media typically allow for two way communication, where bothcommunication partners can be sender and receiver at the same time (-feedback channel provided).
