    Fingerless Gloves - Fashion Information
Ask someone what his first association with fingerless gloves is, and he will probably name something from the 80s. Maybe it is Michael Jackson, or that one movie where the female lead always wore a fingerless glove and carries her drum sticks around. Whatever he thinks about, it is something that was once fashionable, but now its pathetic. Nevertheless, perhaps this much lamented piece of clothing deserves another look. It might just surprise you. I first discovered the virtue of the fingerless glove while I was working on a construction crew this fall. Normally, I don't wear any gloves at all when I'm doing construction. You see, although you can hurt your hand without work gloves, the gloves themselves do very little to protect you. Instead, all they do is harm your hand eye coordination, increasing the chance of an injury. It was getting cold, however, and I needed some way to keep my hands warm. When I tried out a fingerless work glove at the suggestion of one of my coworkers, I was initially unimpressed. Once I got out into the field, however, I realized what a good decision it was. The difference is amazing. The hand is like the body in miniature. As the body has a central, warm core which radiates into cooler, peripheral limbs, so the hand has a central palm which radiates into colder, peripheral fingers. If you can keep the palm warm, there is more energy to go throughout the fingers. A fingerless glove does much more to keep your hand warm than you would expect. Not only was my palm warm, but my fingers were warmer too! Don't get me wrong – normal gloves would have done even more to keep my hands warm, but as I said I couldn't afford to use normal gloves and decrease my dexterity. The fingerless mittens that I will wearing were the next best thing. I was surprised when my daughter bought fingerless prom gloves this year. I had never thought about it before, but the fingerless glove has never really lost its place in fashion. There are fingerless motorcycle gloves that adorn the fists of some of the toughest, rowdiest, and most American of all characters – the bikers. There are fingerless opera gloves that have been a tradition among refined women on a night out at the symphony for generations. As far as I can tell, the fingerless glove never really died off at all.
