False Positive HIV - What You Should Know |
| Imagine your absolute worst nightmare. Hmm, I'll bet I can lay one on you that'll make your heart skip a beat or two. It doesn't involve any monsters, weapons of death or heinous serial killers. Think more along the lines of reality. What is something you can't even see that terrifies our species like no other? How about HIV; the virus that causes AIDS? Yeah, now that's truly frightening. It's induces extreme fear because it IS real. We've heard all about it for over a decade now. Now imagine you went to a clinic to get tested and then received a false positive HIV result. This would shock your world like nothing else. Aside from the fact that you'd be swimming in relief once you discovered it was a false alarm, the period of time you thought it was real would likely be the worst time of your life.
What triggers a false positive HIV result? There are actually a number of things that can do so. Just to give you an idea, I'll reel off a few; Tuberculosis, Malaria, Herpes Simplex 1 and 2, Hepatitis, Rheumatoid arthritis, the common flu or flu shots, kidney failure, and recent viral infections. These are just some factors that may lead to false positive HIV test results. In all honesty, this is a very complicated disease. It's not so easy to test for and receive 100 percent accurate results. There have been cases where the HIV hasn't shown up for 6 months, a year or more. This is my many sexually active people choose to get tested on a routine basis. If you're practicing casual sex with more than one partner, then it's certainly a good idea. There are no 100 percent guarantees these days.
It's not prudent to simply assume that an HIV test is 100 percent true. Before freaking out beyond all reason, consider the possibility of false positive HIV results. This has happened to more people than you think. In reality it could be your case as well. Obviously if you're not at risk for HIV, then this is probably the case. You know your lifestyle and daily habits. There are only so many ways you can acquire this deadly virus. If you're concerned about your sexual history, get tested for HIV today.
