Karisma Randhir Kapoor was born on June 25, 1974, in Mumbai, India, into a well-established acting clan. Her great grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor, as well as his brothers, Shammi and Shashi, were well-known actors in India. Both of her grandfathers, Raj Kapoor and Hari Shivdasani, achieved major success in the movies, while her father Randhir and mother Babita were popular Bollywood screen stars also. Her uncles Rishi and Rajiv and younger sister Kareena also made it as Indian movie stars.
