| The Montagues drew up detailed plans with an architect and had received planning permission for their ideal home. With his expertise John interpreted the plans and even modified them to provide a functional family home. He suggested installing additional skylights to create more light and removed windows from the kitchen to provide a more functional layout, and with cleaning the Montagues’ menagerie of pets in mind, John even installed a very useful drainage system in the garage.
The World War II bunker on the site presented a potential problem, but John formed a reinforced concrete base over the hole the bunker occupied. The end result is a home that far exceeds the Montagues original expectations and was well worth the 17 months spent living on site in a caravan.
Said Gillian: “Not only were we impressed with our fabulous home, but we expected to be wading through thick mud in wellies, but John and his team had set up the caravan as if it were on a camp site – we hadn’t asked him to do this and it was all included in the price. We were delighted.”
